Our Services

Befriending service

DISC is currently running a pilot befriending project which matches isolated disabled people in Camden with committed volunteers.

Our aim is to reduce the stress of loneliness, increase our service users’ confidence and enable them to become more independent.

We recruit and train volunteers who want to spend time providing companionship and support to isolated disabled people, helping them to access social and community activities, or simply meeting for a cup of tea and a chat.

Do you know a disabled person in Camden who might benefit from our befriending service?
Please note that the Befriending service is a pilot project at present and as such we cannot accept any new referrals until we have received further funding. If you would like to make a referral please contact the project coordinator for more information.

Are you interested in becoming a volunteer befriender?
We are always looking for committed and responsible volunteers from all walks of life to match with our service users. This is potentially a very rewarding role as you will be making a real difference to the quality of someone’s life. If you have some time to spare to spend with a vulnerable or isolated disabled person in Camden and can make a commitment of at least 6 months, then we would love to hear from you.

We provide full training and ongoing support as well as references upon completion. Please download an application pack from the 'Useful documents' list on the right hand side of this page.
